John Smooth was born and raised in the Bronx. Successfully trained as an audio engineer/producer, he engineered projects for artists such as De La Soul, Queen Latifah, Phyllis Hyman, Brand Nubian and a Tribe Called Quest.
John first took the stage during a new jack segment of a local comedy show and took like a fish to water. Soon, John became a regular act on the New York comedy circuit. His high energy and physical humor amazed audiences. Smooth was the first comedian to perform a comedic skit on HBO’s “Def Comedy Jam”, in addition to performances on Fox’s “The Uptown Comedy Club”, NBC’s “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”. He has also been the producer of the urban comedy shows for The New York Underground Comedy Festival. He has written a play, “The Harlem Coffeeshop” that premiered at the Beacon Theater in NYC. You may also hear his voice on “The Warriors” Video Game by Rockstar Games and see him in various national commercials. Currently he is producing a documentary on African American Relationships entitled ”Whatever Happened to Black Love?”
He has cemented his position in the New York comedy scene by producing and hosting some of NYC’s favorite comedy clubs. The perfect host for any occasion. John Smooth will continue to rise to the top in film, radio and television.
